Changing Places Assessor
Changing Places provides suitable facilities for individuals whose disabilities prevent them from being able to use traditional accessible public toilets. With a Changing Places facility, people with high support needs can fully participate in their communities. People who may have an acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida or motor neurone disease and many other disabilities can benefit from these features.

Changing Places Design Specifications 2020
Every Changing Places facility should provide:
- a height-adjustable adult-sized change table
- a constant-charging ceiling track hoist system
- a centrally located peninsula toilet
- circulation spaces as defined in p-[the design specifications
- an automatic door with a clear opening of 950mm at a minimum (1100mm for beach and lake locations)
- a privacy screen
The National Construction Code requires Changing Facilities in the built environment. These facilities will also enhance the accessibility of an inclusive environment which achieves the intent of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth). Ultimately, these changing places public bathrooms provide many individuals with disabilities greater opportunities to participate in their communities with dignity.

I believe that it was a natural transition to become an Accredited Access Consultant. As someone with first-hand knowledge of the architectural profession and, due to living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and the experiences of a manual wheelchair user, I can provide a unique, dual perspective on access issues.
GOOD ACCESS has become an integral part of my life.
“I cannot control the fact I have multiple sclerosis but what I can control is my attitude”
